Mother’s Day Crafts For Kids: The Saturday Weekend Review #327

Mother’s Day Crafts is a great way to teach children that they don’t need to buy stuff for special occasions when homemade will do.

Yesterday during our son’s Google Meet online class the teacher came up with suggestions for Mother’s Day crafts.

Unfortunately, the kids had already started making Mother’s Day crafts at school but were unable to get them.

So the kids had to start over from scratch which was fine with us as I got to participate.

Today, I want to talk about how to create Mother’s Day crafts at home in a jiffy without added expenses.

You will also find a step-by-step tutorial about how to make a colourful heart using pipe cleaners.

Cheap Mother’s Day Crafts For Kids

In the past we would buy cards at the Dollar Store for all occasions but we stopped years ago.

A quick trip to the Dollar Store led me down many aisles where I could not purchase products.

Even if you wanted to buy a Mother’s Day Card you couldn’t since it’s not an essential item.

However I was able to buy craft items such as crayons, markers, colour construction board, etc.

Most parents are likely stocked up on kids art supplies but we were running low.

Oftentimes holidays are associated with spending money and buying gifts and Mother’s Day is on that list.

We wanted to teach our son that making something was better than buying something.

Teaching our children to be kind and share their emotions in arts and crafts is a gift with lasting memories.

  • Take 4 different colour pipe cleaners
  • Twist the 4 ends together
  • Using one hand to hold the pipe cleaners use the other to twist it to the bottom
  • Shape the coloured pipe cleaners into two candy cane shapes
  • Bring each end of the candy cane shape together and twist the ends to form a heart.
  • You can cut the twisted end if it’s sharp

Mother’s Day Craft Ideas to make a card

I folded and cut the colour cardboard stock that we had purchased into four cards.

Oddly enough the kids are learning fractions in school so our son spoke up and said, fourths.

I brought all of the craft materials to the table and watched him create his Mother’s Day Craft.

When you see your child making hearts on a page and seeing their thoughts come to life, it’s magical.

I’m pretty sure our son won’t be an artist but he most certainly has a heart of gold.

The Mother’s Day Crafts that we made took us about 30 minutes to draw, cut, colour and glue.

He was so proud of the card that he struggled to not show his mother until Mother’s Day.

Media Literacy And Consumerism

Currently in media class our 6-year-old son is learning about marketing to consumers.

They are talking about the different forms of media and whether they are to inform, persuade, or for entertainment.

By showing your child how they can make someone happy without buying stuff.

Creating crafts is a valuable financial and educational life lesson you can teach them.

Two Easy Mother’s Day Crafts Ideas

I went looking on Pinterest for the best two Easy Mother’s Day Crafts.

Instantly I fell in love with the bouquet of flowers because Mrs. CBB tells me never to buy them.

So, I think we will be making this today while she is out for her daily walk.

Mother’s Day Craft made from popsicle sticks

Michelle, blogger at Crafty Morning has a simple Mother’s Day craft idea with materials that you may already have.

Her Mother’s Day craft idea is titled, “Home is Where The Heart Is” and it’s made from popsicle sticks.

You will need 6 popsicle sticks, buttons, pink/yellow paper, glue, scissors, a marker, and glue.

Perfect.

Since our son has a Sensory Processing Disorder finding crafts that take little time is ideal.

It’s a struggle for a child to sit for longer periods of time to focus and I thought this craft would be perfect.

We will be making this one this afternoon as a family for my sister-in-law for Mother’s Day.

Discussion: What other Mother’s Day crafts for kids ideas do you have?

THOUGHTS CORNER BY MR.CBB

This popped into my head only because I hope the picture is far clearer now that we are into year two of this pandemic.

What this pandemic has taught us is for one, we are happy our mortgage is paid off.

So many people are struggling to pay the rent, mortgage, utility bills and put food on the table.

There are many businesses that are closing ruining life-long dreams for the owners.

This also means that Canadians are losing their jobs.

If anything start your emergency savings over if you’ve used it up.

Find things you can sell if you need spare cash.

Pay off debt as fast as you can and stop making it.

Prioritize what you need over want and stick to budget basics.

Frugal living saved us and I hope it will save you from future financial crisis.

Frugal Recipe Of The Week

Classic Cherry Delight by My Country Table

Today’s recipe Classic Cherry Delight by My Country Table was chosen by Mrs. CBB.

The photo brought her back to the time when her mother would make this recipe.

It was called a no-bake cherry cheesecake and what she loved the most was the thick crust.

When I created my Classic Thick Date Squares Recipe I didn’t realize how popular it would be on Pinterest.

Not only is the filling important but so is the base as a pie crust would be for a pie.

A thick base with all the creamy goodness in the middle or on top is a winner to me.

I most definitely will make this recipe so we can bring it to my mother-in-law.

SATURDAY SEARCH TERM GIGGLES

Google Search Terms for Canadian Budget Binder

These are keywords that readers typed into their search engine and landed on this blog. I get quite a few of these every single day and pick some of the best to feature right here.

  • What do you do after you die and your bank account is frozen? – I’m pretty sure you won’t need financial security when you’re dead.
  • Can you go home during jury duty? – I would assume so however they may not want you to be influenced by outside media or people and host you in a private place. A great question to ask the courts or a lawyer.
  • You Canadians waste money – You all fill in this one for me by commenting below.
  • How to get a permit for a garage sale in Canada? – Woah, has something changed that I don’t know about? I didn’t think you needed a permit to host a garage sale. I’m looking into this for sure.

That’s all for this week CBB Friends. Join me next Friday for my bi-weekly newsletter.
